Building with Pride - Trinity Place Shelter

Why Trinity Place?

Supporting Trinity Place means supporting a chronically overlooked population - homeless LGBTQ youth and young adults in New York City. As many as 8,000 LGBTQ youth and young adults are homeless in New York City, and a vast majority of them are Latino or African-American. At a high risk of suicide, HIV/AIDS, abuse, violence and trauma, homeless LGBTQ youth/young adults are also particularly vulnerable in the regular NYC homeless system.

While most safe shelters that currently serve these LGBTQ youth/young adults have a limit of 30 days or less, we recognize that 30 days or less is hardly enough time for a young person to gain the educational and vocational skills needed to make the transition to independent living. Young adults over the age of 21 are also underserved because many have "aged out" of the foster care system. For these reasons, Trinity Place is a transitional shelter that allows youth between ages of 18-24 to stay as long as they are making progress toward their educational and employment goals.

Our "Building with Pride" campaign seeks to secure Trinity Place's future so that we can continue to provide a place where LGBTQ youth/young adults can continue to work towards independent lives. Invest in the future of Trinity Place and the future of LGBTQ youth!
